In a brief virtual event today, Bharti Airtel shared the feats it had achieved while testing its 5G networks for virtual gaming. During the event, Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Bharti Airtel, said that 5G would have two primary use cases for consumers in India. From consumers, he meant normal mobile users. Sekhon said that 5G would be drive cloud gaming and immersive entertainment experience for the Indians in the coming years.

5G will not have many unique use cases for Indian users, but it will help with cloud gaming, as demonstrated by Bharti Airtel in a recent test. On top of that, the next-generation connectivity will drive the growth of immersive entertainment experiences for the users. From immersive entertainment, Sekhon meant watching content with the help of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) gadgets. This will take the experience of watching anything for the consumers to the next level. Sekhon gave an example of watching cricket through VR gadgets and seeing something directly from behind the stumps or from the boundary. Sekhon said that what Bharti Airtel can do is create an infrastructure of connectivity where other technology companies from around the world can step in and leverage the network to deliver a next-generation connectivity experience to the users. At the same time, the Airtel CTO didn’t rule out the enterprise segment that 5G will attract. He said that 5G would attract both the B2B and B2C segments. There are a lot of use cases for 5G in the enterprise segment, while a good 4G network can fulfil almost each and every demand of an average consumer from his/her mobile phone. There are a lot of things that 5G will enable for the consumers in India, and Airtel has a chance to be at the forefront of the market.
