Nokia 1 is the Cheapest Phone to Run Android 9 Pie Software
With the latest update, the Nokia 1 becomes the cheapest phone in India to run Android 9 Pie software, albeit it’s Go Edition. The Nokia 1 recently got a competitor in the form of Xiaomi Redmi Go which also boots Android Oreo (Go Edition), and it may get the Pie update later this year. “With Nokia 1 getting its very own slice of Pie, we now have a full portfolio of Nokia phones on Android 9 Pie, starting at just sub $80. This changes the industry paradigm – for too long consumers have had to accept older OS versions as the norm on entry-level smartphones. We are living our promise to deliver a phone that will keep getting better over time through the latest experiences and always being up-to-date. And with the Nokia 1 upgrade to Google’s latest OS, fans can get up-to-the-minute software experiences and innovations from Google even in the most affordable segment," said Juho Sarvikas, CPO, HMD Global. HMD Global already pushed Android 9 Pie update to several smartphones like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, Nokia 3.1 Plus, Nokia 2.1 and so on. It now has more than 15 smartphones running the Pie update and the phones released in 2019 already came with Android 9 Pie out of the box. The Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) update to Nokia 1 is rolling out in phases and it will take a while for your smartphone to receive it.
Nokia 8.1 is Part of Android Q Beta Programme
In other news, HMD Global is also serving Android Q Beta software to the Nokia 8.1 users across the globe. Last year, the company allowed Nokia 7 Plus users to test Android 9 Pie Beta version, and this year, it’s the turn for Nokia 8.1 users. Also, when Google rolls out Android Q stable version to Pixel phones, HMD Global will seed the update to the Nokia 8.1 first, followed by other Nokia phones.
