In order to increase the efficiency of the Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN), the UK-based telecoms company Vodafone and the Japanese telco NTT Docomo have agreed to harmonise system integration and test procedures. The goal is to support businesses across Europe and Asia in the construction of networks with an open architecture. The telecom companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday that the standard testing methodology will help vendors avoid repetition when working with multiple operators while ensuring that the industry delivers secure by-design products as defined by the industry bodies, 3GPP and the ORAN Alliance....

The never-ending adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues drama continue with telcos and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) standing at odds with each other. The telcos have argued that they have already paid the 10% advance on the dues while DoT says they haven’t. According to an ET Telecom report, DoT has to inform the Supreme Court (SC) about the status of the AGR dues paid by the telcos as of March 31, 2021....

Vodafone Idea (Vi) partnered with Nokia to test 5G networks in rural India. The telco announced that it was able to deliver connectivity with a download speed of more than 100 Mbps across an area covering 17.1 kilometres. For the trial, Vodafone Idea used spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band allocated by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The rural site used by the telco was in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. As mentioned above, Vodafone Idea had partnered with Nokia for conducting the trials and hence used the network equipment provided by the Finnish company....

Ericsson Serving Vodafone Idea in Eight Circles Back in November, we had reported that Nokia bagged nine circles, whereas Ericsson got eight circles and will be providing equipment to the telco in these zones. On the other hand, Chinese vendors like ZTE and Huawei each could only get 5 circles, and even those were shared with other vendors. The Indian government is looking to hire an advisor to help with the conversion process of Vodafone Idea’s debt into equity. Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator, has lost the case against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) order for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) which was issued in December 7, 2021. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), in its order, said that TRAI is well within its powers to issue such an order and doesn’t require any interference. TDSAT has said that TRAI’s stand is “fair and reasonable”....
