On the one hand, we have Reliance Jio which is expected to go aggressive in the spectrum auction because the telco’s liberalised spectrum in the 850 MHz frequency band is set to expire this year across several circles. The liberalised spectrum of Reliance Communications (RCom) owned by Reliance Jio is also set to expire in various circles....

SpaceX owned satellite broadband company, Starlink Broadband will start providing services in India by next year. The company’s website is allowing users in India to ‘reserve’ a connection by paying a $99 deposit right away. It is not available for every region of the country yet, but users in select regions can ‘reserve’ it. The exact timeline for the launch of Starlink’s services is unknown, but the company says that it will start providing coverage in several areas of India by 2022....

Tata Sky, the largest Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator in India announced that it would revise the electronic programming guide (EPG) numbers of over 30 channels on its platform from Tuesday. The DTH operator on its portal highlighted that the two day exercise would result in the revision of EPG numbers of 35 Malayalam regional channels such as Surya TV, Surya Movies and Asianet. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telecom and information technology minister of India, has asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to come up with a consultation paper to try and improve the quality of service by three to four times of what it is presently. The telecom operators have been provided with a series of reforms to help improve the health of the sector as well as their business. The telecom operators in India including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea registered an increase in 4G data speeds in June, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) data reveals. The data released by Trai on its MySpeed Portal is said to be generated using the authority’s MySpeedApp which is designed to measure data speed experience, signal strength and “other network information.” According to the Trai data, Reliance Jio has maintained its position at the top of the charts in the 4G space with the operator registering speeds of 16....

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Tuesday released a consultation paper on the Review of the Quality of Service regulation, the code of practice for metering and billing accuracy. The authority said that the Quality of Service regulation was introduced on March 21, 2006 to minimise the incidents related to billing complaints. Trai said that the Quality of Service regulation contains code of practice for metering and billing that are required to be complied by every basic service provider and cellular mobile service provider....

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has shared a list of names in its defaulter list for registering with new SMS templates and following all the new regulations. According to an ET Telecom report, big names such as State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Samsung, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), and Delhivery are on the list of the regulator for not following the regulations.
