Telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, are facing heavy financial distress amid the Covid-19 crisis. All the telcos have urged the finance minister of India to increase the liquidity of telecom operators by offering soft loans and waiving taxes imposed on spectrum fees and usage charges. As reported by ET Telecom, COAI director general Rajan Mathews penned a letter to Nirmala Sitharaman and stated that since the COVID-19 created an adverse impact on the economy and operations of the telecom industry, telecom companies should be offered soft loans at a marginal cost lending rate using GST input credits as collateral security....

DoT Asks Telcos to Submit Additional Spectrum Requirement Similar to telecom operators, DoT is also monitoring the current situation and it will act accordingly. Telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio already sought additional spectrum from the DoT. The department has now asked all the telcos to submit the spectrum allocation requirement to WPC. “The DoT has asked all telecom operators to submit their requirement of spectrum circle wise for both access and backhaul spectrum to the Wireless Planning Commission....

The project has additional operations and maintenance component of Rs 862 crore for ten years, which takes the total value of the contract to Rs 3,329 crore, the statement said. “We are proud to have been awarded this prestigious Project. This advanced next-generation network would be very critical communication Network for Indian Army,” HFCL Managing Director Mahendra Nahata said. The project will connect various locations of Indian Army while integrating all existing and legacy communication set-up with advanced internet protocol-based network to offer secure transmission of voice, data, video and multi-media....

The clearance of 42 enterprises, including 28 MSMEs, under the PLI Scheme for Telecom and Networking Products by the Ministry of Communications is a significant boost to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Of those, 17 businesses have requested an additional 1% incentive based on design-led manufacturing criteria. Rs 4,115 crores have been pledged to investment by these 42 enterprises (see annexe).
