Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) had started a Wi-Fi joint venture called FireFly Networks. The purpose of the JV was to offload mobile networks and promote the use of Wi-Fi in multiple parts of the company. But the business didn’t do much as the expansion of 4G networks happened pretty fast in the country once Jio arrived. Now, an ET Telecom report suggests that Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are thinking of selling the Wi-Fi JV to Cisco....

Bharti Airtel has just submitted its plan of fundraising with the stock exchanges of India. The second-largest telco has confirmed that it will raise Rs 21,000 crores through a rights issue. This news is certainly going to help the company’s stock when it opens on Monday (assumption, not investment advice). This move from Bharti Airtel cements its plan for having enough cash in the bank so that it could invest in its networks to increase capacity and also pay off its debts more comfortably....

Kotak Institutional Equities on Wednesday said in a report that the second quarter of the current financial year was a “stellar quarter” for Bharti Airtel’s India wireless business “on all counts.” The firm in its report said that the Bharti Airtel Africa wireless business did “even better” as compared to its Indian peer while the non-wireless India businesses of Airtel registered “steady prints.” Airtel on Tuesday announced its second-quarter financial results for the period ended September 30, 2020, with the company registering an 22% year-over-year (YoY) growth in its consolidated quarterly revenues....

A few days back, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had released its performance indicator report of the Indian Telecom industry for Q3 FY21. The report shed light on the performance of the telcos in key areas where it became pretty evident that Bharti Airtel had outperformed Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi) during the quarter. According to an ICICI Securities analysis of the TRAI’s report, there were plenty of positives for the overall industry....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is right now trying to roll out homegrown 4G networks in the country. The state-run telco isn’t going to be rolling out 5G networks anytime soon. However, once the telco has built a strong 4G presence around the country, it can utilise the 4G core and go with 5G non-standalone architecture (NSA) networks to deliver a homegrown 5G as well. Many people are of the view that BSNL should have gone with 5G SA (standalone architecture) and skipped 4G completely....

State-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL have asked the involvement of the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in the matter of outstanding sovereign guarantee. The telcos stated that certain officials from the finance ministry department had blocked the sovereign guarantee, which is worth Rs 15,000 crore. The amount if released soon will be a big aid to state-owned telcos as they are already under financial distress. As reported by ET Telecom, state-owned telecom operators BSNL and MTNL have to clear around Rs 20,000 crore of vendor dues....

No Other Telecom Companies Except BSNL and MTNL for Public Departments As per a memorandum issued by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), “The government of India has, inter-alia, approved the mandatory utilisation of capacities of BSNL and MTNL by all ministries/departments of the government of India, CPSEs, central autonomous bodies”. There was a note from the Department of Expenditure accompanying the memorandum which stated that the decision of mandatorily using the services of BSNL and MTNL came from the cabinet....

There is a fear amid the market that Vodafone Idea (Vi) might go bankrupt in case the telco doesn’t get enough relief from the government or isn’t able to find a new investor. This would hurt all the users on the telco’s network as they will have to port their SIMs to other companies’ networks. However, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) might benefit a lot from the bankruptcy of Vodafone Idea....

BSNL Bharat Fiber Service Now Expands to Dharmapuri The residents of the Dharmapuri city are offered four major Bharat Fiber plans including the “Super star 300” plan that is priced at Rs 749 per month. The Super star 300 plan enables users to browse up to 50 Mbps speed till 300GB with the operator capping the speeds to 2Mbps upon reaching the 300GB limit. The retailer also offers the “600GB CUL” plan, the 750GB Plan and the Fibro Combo ULD 1999 CS55 plan....

BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) recently introduced a new 40 Mbps broadband plan for consumers. TelecomTalk reported about the development first on November 7, 2022. Now, this is not a plan that would get a lot of people too excited. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is offering one free Bharat Air Fiber connection to its franchisees, who are normally referred to as Radio Broadband Service Provider (RBSP). Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited aka BSNL has removed the Rs 1,498 Data STV which it introduced several years ago. We have seen BSNL updating several STVs in recent years and the Rs 1,498 Data STV is also part of the same. When we last reported about the Rs 1,498 plan, it offered the customers 91GB of data without any daily or monthly limit for 365 days. The removal of Rs 1,498 STV has been confirmed by BSNL on its official website, however, there’s no reason mentioned at the moment....
