Since BSNL is facing some rogue competition from the private telecom players, it seems obvious for them to go ahead and intensify their marketing and offer some freebies on the wired broadband plans. As a result, BSNL FTTH plans are available with some interesting caveats to subscribers. However, one drawback with some of the higher-end broadband plans of BSNL was that they were limited to some cities only, but now BSNL seems to be introducing these plans in new areas as well....

The state-run operator introduced the 200 Mbps plan in early 2020 in the Chennai and Telangana circles on a promotional basis. While the operator no longer offers the plan in the Chennai circle, it has since expanded the plan to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and recently re-introduced the plan in the Telangana circle....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Monday revised its Rs 777 plan dubbed as “500GB CUL” with the plan now offering users up to 100 Mbps download speeds. The 500GB CUL plan was initially introduced by the operator in late 2018 with BSNL withdrawing the plan and reintroducing it in early 2019. In early 2020, BSNL said that the 500GB CUL plan would be valid till June, 2020. However, the operator in June extended the Rs 777 plan to September 24, 2020 in certain circles like Arunachal Pradesh while other circles were offered the plan till September 25, 2020....

The Indian government is tightening the rules around telecom infrastructure to ensure that the safety of the country remains intact. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that BSNL will also need to procure satcom (satellite communications) equipment by following the same rules as what the private telcos or private companies are following. In fact, not just satcom, be it any infrastructure-related equipment, the telcos will need the permission of the National Cyber Security Coordinator to procure it....

As per a PTI report, the Home Ministry is also seeking to understand what decision the telecom department will go ahead with. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) on Friday withdrew its Rs 149 postpaid plan that offered 100 minutes of free calls to users. The development was highlighted by the BSNL Rajasthan circle on social media platforms. The “Plan 149” is among the 10 BSNL postpaid plans offered in several BSNL circles across India. BSNL enabled users to subscribe to Plan 149 on a monthly and on annual basis with users also offered an advance payment option method....

British Multinational Telecommunications Company BT Group has stated that it is looking forward to expanding its services in India in order to use the country’s digital skills to create more products and solutions for digital transformation. BT Group is a provider of global communication services. The chief innovation officer at BT, Harmeen Mehta, had stated in an interview to ET Telecom that India has a big presence for BT and the company is probably one of the largest outside of the UK as well....

BT Group, UK’s leading telecommunications and network provider that serves customers in 180 countries and LEO satellite company OneWeb have entered into a partnership for a new Distribution Partner Agreement. As per the partnership, OneWeb will provide Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication services to BT Group. This development follows an initial MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), which was signed back in July this year. Notably, BT is testing the way LEO satellite technology integrates with the existing terrestrial capabilities meet the customers’ communications requirements....

Canal+ has confirmed the acquisition deal with Orange to acquire its pay TV and film divisions. As a result of this deal, Canal+ will become the sole shareholder of OCS Pay TV and Orange studio, the subsidiary for the co-production of movies and television shows. Orange Cinema Series (OCS), Pay TV OCS is the second biggest local pay TV provider after Canal+ in France. Orange Studio has more than 200 co-productions to its credit, as well as a catalogue of almost 1,800 audiovisual and cinematographic works, including Oscar-winning and emblematic films such as The Artist and The Father....

“DCC has agreed to impose a penalty on Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea for not providing points of interconnection to Reliance Jio. However, the Commission has decided to take Trai’s view on revising quantum of penalty in the backdrop of stress in the sector,” an official source told PTI. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) in October 2016 recommended imposing a total penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on Airtel, Vodafone Idea for allegedly denying interconnectivity to newcomer Reliance Jio....
